There’s Too Much Competition! Or is There?

Is this something you feel?

There are too many practitioners who provide the same service as you?  There are too many alternative options available for your potential clients?

This is a complaint I often hear from complementary practitioners and therapists.  They feel discouraged because there are so many others competing for new clients.  This can knock their confidence and they end up feeling, they will never be successful.

Consider this, if there are others, successfully offering a solution to the same problems as you, it’s a good thing!  This shows that you are solving a problem that people need help with.  And importantly, that they will pay for the help.  This means your business is viable.

Don’t let the reason for you not succeeding be, there is too much competition.  Instead focus on why you are the best choice for your clients.  You are your business, and you are unique.  No one else, can do what you do, in the special way you do it.

It’s true, there are many, many different therapists and practitioners out there.  But there is one thing many have in common, they don’t stand out!  They just aren’t visible.

So many of the therapists and practitioners you view as competition, ignore marketing.  They don’t build their profile to attract the right clients and wait in hope that the phone will ring.  The only reason they stand out to you is, because you are consciously looking for, and therefore, noticing them.

Marketing is your biggest opportunity, and where you need to focus your efforts.  You need to be very clear with who you help and how you help them.  Ultimately, you need to make yourself very interesting to these people.

The job of your marketing is to educate.  Be helpful and generous with the information you provide, share your values and allow your personality and skills to shine through.  The clients who are right for you, will be attracted to you, and how you can help them.

Start by reviewing what marketing you are currently doing.  Have a look at what your ‘competition’ are doing too, and see what you could do differently to help you stand out from the crowd.

Marketing is all about building relationships with your audience.  If you’re happy doing videos, they are a very powerful way for people to get to know you and provide a great opportunity to stand out online.

Podcasts were brilliant for me when I was building my practice a few years ago.  I still get clients who discovered me from listening to the library of recordings from years ago.

There are so many people out there who could benefit from your help and don’t even know you exist.  It is time to stop blaming competition for your shortage of clients and start focusing on what you can do.

I believe there is plenty of work out there for everyone.  The work you do fits brilliantly with the movement towards self-care and individuals taking responsibility for their overall health and wellbeing.
